Granola follow-through guide

Granola action items to tasks — then to a first draft.

Your notes capture the conversation. Follow-through needs a place where someone owns the next step, the draft gets reviewed, and the result stays attached to the task.

Start with the commitment, not the whole transcript

Separate decisions, background context and actual action items. A useful task describes an outcome: ‘Prepare the partner brief’ rather than ‘Discuss partners’. Keep the relevant meeting context attached so the assignee knows why it matters.

  • Confirm the person responsible instead of assuming the speaker owns it.
  • Check any suggested due date against what was agreed.
  • Keep sensitive notes within the intended workspace.

Use Surf Tasks as the step after your notetaker

Create your workspace, add your personal Granola connection in meeting settings, and import the notes you intend to use. Provider API access depends on your Granola plan and permissions; a connection is not a promise of universal access.

Review the notes and use Create tasks to turn the meeting follow-up into work in Meeting Tasks. Assign a teammate or an available AI agent, and adjust the subtasks in task chat as the scope becomes clearer.

Give the draft enough context to be useful

Add reference files or relevant workspace knowledge, then review the generated plan and draft. If the agent asks for missing information, answer in chat or deliberately choose to continue with assumptions. A draft is a starting point, not evidence that every claim is correct.

Keep the approval with a person

Review the work product before approving completion. Where your Google Drive connection and permissions support it, save the approved deliverable to Drive. The goal is an accountable output, not another unread summary.

Surf Tasks platform access is free during beta. Bring your own supported AI provider key; AI usage and any meeting-service subscription are billed separately by those providers.
